Got a replacement Surface 7 running windows Grabbed an old Acrobat X cd and installed as per normal. Install seemed to go fine enough. Acrobat will open but then, after say 15 seconds I get a popup from the Program Compatibility Assistant saying “This app can’t run on this device – Adobe Creative Suite 6” and mentions because it causes security or performance issues on Windows.

Basically then says check for an update from the software provider but of course Adobe isn’t updating old software and wants you to rent everything for usd a year. Any thoughts? I have tried running as administrator but that makes no difference.

Have you tried going into the properties for the shortcut or executable, visiting the Compatibility tab, and checking the “Run this program in compatibility mode for” box, and choosing Windows 7?

You don’t need Adobe just to read and annotate files. I started using the free foxit reader a few years ago when I needed to do stuff the free adobe reader and edge don’t do; e. Never looked back. What is your use case for Adobe Acrobat?

As others have pointed out, Sumatra and Foxit are also capable of this. If you need to edit, merge, or export PDFs, you will need the Standard version. The Pro version adds character recognition for scanned documents, comparison between two PDFs, and the ability to add accessibility features to PDFs.

Odds are very high you just need Acrobat Reader. Keeping unpatched software with known security vulnerabilities on your system, especially when dealing with documents downloaded from the public internet, is a very bad idea.

If you absolutely need http://replace.me/8164.txt full version and aren’t willing to upgrade to a supported version, at least run it in a virtual machine so you don’t infect your main system. I look at pdfs. I get my banking on pdfs and for those its nice given there are multiple sections to combine those pdfs into one pdf.

Certainly not a power user. Foxit Reader does what you mentioned. I use it too, and would be reluctant to switch to anything else. Yup, but Edge does. Yup, but Edge does Is that using edge’s draw feature? I find it much easier to drop in a previously saved signature. Don’t think edge lets you do that. Also couldn’t find the ability to type in text to fill in info on a pdf in edge. Did I just miss that stuff? Doh, I meant highlight which it does as that was my use case – I don’t believe it will let you insert a signature.

The only feature here that needs Acrobat is combining PDFs. The rest can be done by most free PDF tools. In that case, I recommended Adobe Reader for accuracy and highest compatibility with markup, commenting, and fill capabilities. Not a good look. Entegy wrote: Ah, but you have to upload your PDF to their cloud service. Unless that webpage somehow does the work locally? So I should assume if I merge a bank statement that somewhere somehow someone may be able to see it as well I guess. That said, with likely millions of these things happening in a given time frame, am I gonna get too excited, I don’t know. While my desktop continues to run, I can use Adobe X. It was a fairly good experience.

The interface seemed decent. Free, IIRC. Adobe Acrobat X going splat? Ars Legatus Legionis et Subscriptor. Ars Tribunus Angusticlavius et Subscriptor. CommanderJameson wrote:.
